The Help Page – How to play along!

This page has it all – the basic rules of how to play along, the WW button to put on your post, and the tutorial on using Linky.

Basic Rules – This is meant to be a fun, sexy meme. A way to bring in a little more traffic, a few new readers but not something to abuse for links/SEO. If you’re playing along, be true to the nature of WantonWednesday and keep it fresh. What’s welcome? Anything, really. You can be clothed, half-naked, fully-naked or not even in the photo. You can use this weekly meme as a writing prompt for yourself and write up something sexy.

Since we’re using Linky now instead of comments I’m actually going to close the comments out. I don’t see any real need to have comments open, since this is just the gathering spot for the meme. If you’ve got any questions or having any problems, feel free to email me: dangerouslilly @ gmail.com

If you’re playing, I ask two things of you. One, to include the small button at the bottom of your post and link it back to either the main blog page (http://wantonwednesday.dangerouslilly.com) or even directly to the post of the week you’re joining. This gets YOUR readers over to see the rest of the participants and hopefully your readers will find another sexy blog to add to their list!

The second thing that I ask is that you do your best to visit everyone’s WW post (we’re not a huge crowd, so it’s not hard) and make them feel welcome. It can be hard posting something revealing and then hearing only crickets.

Here’s the WW button for you to use (just right click and save it):

If you’re new to WW altogether, or new to the Linky widget, this tutorial will show you exactly how to do things, step by step.

The first thing to mention here is that the Linky tool allows me to set an “open” period. For each week’s WW post, you’ll be allowed to enter in your link from 8pm (EST) on Tuesday through midnight that Thursday.  If you’re early, you’ll see this:

And if you’re late, it’ll look like this:

If you’re right on time, you’ll see other links and the link to click to go add your own:

Which takes you off-site to Linky Tools, where you’ll enter in your information like this:

Click to enter:

From which you can click on the big blue “Click here” to return to the WW post you were on.

You can enter in either your blogging handle only, or your blogging handle and then the title of your WW post, in the first box. In the second box you enter in the direct link to your WW post (NOT the generic link to your blog’s homepage, i.e. myblog.blogspot.com). Entries with just a link to a homepage will be deleted – the reason is that when people come to browse through the entries, sometimes a person has already put up something new by the time the viewer gets here….and then your WW is no longer the first post. Also, just putting in your main blog home page is seen as a way to just get “SEO links” which is potentially uncool.

Please use the Linky tool to add in your WW link – not the comments section! Why? Because the Linky tool allows all the links to be seen without someone clicking through to the individual post and scrolling through comments. I think we’ll all see more traffic this way.
